What is professional liability insurance?

As a physical therapy professional, you and your assets may be at risk if you are named in a lawsuit. Professional liability insurance, also referred to as malpractice insurance, provides coverage in the event of a lawsuit, deposition, subpoena request, and/or licensing agency complaint. A policy through HPSO provides coverage for defense attorney fees, court costs, medical damage, settlement costs, and more, subject to the terms, conditions, and exclusions in the policy.

What is this new product?

This new product is a proprietary HPSO professional liability insurance offering available only to APTA members who are insured through HPSO on an individual basis. This provides APTA members with significant benefits on professional liability insurance, including:

Am I eligible for this discount?

All individual APTA member PTs and PTAs, with a premium of $100 or more, are eligible.

What kind of discounts and upgrades from HPSO are APTA members eligible for?

APTA member PTs and PTAs are eligible for a 10% APTA membership discount applied to your HPSO professional liability insurance premium. In addition, HPSO will waive the purchasing group fee of $7. With your APTA membership, you will automatically receive coverage for consulting services and fitness services liability. License protection reimbursement also is provided up to a $30,000 limit.

Yes! HPSO has prioritized telephone numbers dedicated to APTA members, staffed with trained and licensed insurance agents who are knowledgeable and available to service APTA members. Are business owners and private practice owners eligible for a discount?

This member benefit is currently available solely to APTA members who are insured as individuals through HPSO.

How do I apply?
